Spring Splendor-Beginning

I am having a hard time with this piece.  The Eterna Silk on the butterfly wings will not lay smooth.  I need to look for some more information.  This will be a struggle for me.

Two things you might try occurred to me. First, try fewer plies. I think you are using too much thread for it all to lie flat. (A laying tool is always handy when you want pretty satin stitches, by the way.) Secondly, lay the thread from side to side of the shape with thread wrapped on the back. Don't come up next to where you just went down to save thread, in other words. That causes twisting in the thread. Good luck!

What Jane said and drop the needle on the back to make sure you are not twisting the threads might also help.

A laying tool is so useful. Give one a try.

Thanks ladies for your comments. I will try fewer plies and letting my thread drop. I do use a laying tool, but I think my hands were very rough despite trying to smooth them.
