Working on the Reptiles

I have been trying to get this painted canvas finished on off my WIP list:

I have been using Capri 18 by Rainbow Gallery in the border. I ordered another card of the red because I was afraid I was going to run out of it. BUT, I had enough from the original order with a tiny bit left over. I am working on the last black line around the border and then I must tackle the head of the bearded dragon.

Just listened to the 12/7/22 Fiber Talk and realized I need to send you info about Ultrasuede on needlepoint. First, make a xerox or two of the canvas. Then cut out the lizard's head so you have a paper pattern. Use strong small magnets to attach your paper pattern to the big piece of Ultrasuede. Cut around it but leave a little margin since you are padding it. You can draw around the paper first if you like but something simple I just cut out. Put the cutout over the head and make sure it's the right size. Trim a bit if necessary. Cut the fringe. Next you need cotton or silk floss in a color that matches the Ultrasuede and a sharp needle. I generally use a beading needle and one ply of my floss to attach the Ultrasuede. Position the Ultraseude over the head carefully and using tiny tacking stitches around the edge and over the top line of the fringe, sew the Ultrasuede onto the canvas. You can add beads for eyes, do a few embroidery stitches for accents (like eyebrows--do these lizards have eye sockets) etc. Once you've attached the Ultrasuede, cut the fringe a bit more if you wish. This isn't hard and you have plenty of Ultrasuede, so just relax and have fun.
