This piece called for Onyx by Weeks Dye Works but I was using Slate Roof from Victorian Motto Sampler Threads. That is the middle bird and the little bit to the left. But I thought it might too brown so I tried Smoke from Crescent Colours which is the bird to the right.
What do you think? I can't really tell the difference. So I stitched some more...
I don't like it. I think I need to find some black and use it. They just look too brown.

I think they look fine Beth. If you don't like them just use 310.

If you were trying for brown you sure got it! I's switch to black too.
I prefer the Smoke, but they both look more like female blackbirds than male!
I agree with Jo, the colour is perfect for female blackbirds, but the males need a true black.
