I was gone on a long trip and decided to bring this sashiko piece with me. It was easy to do in the car and I was amazed by how much I got done.
Pamela, I have never heard of the book that you mentioned. One that I borrowed from the library is called Shashiko: Easy and Elegant Designs for Decorative Machine Embroidery by Mary Parker.
It lists the names of the different designs which I find interesting. I think this one is called Key Pattern.
I am ready to get back to Elizabeth and Ghost Dancer.

Hi Beth,
This pattern is called sayagata in Japanese. The tortoise shell pattern is called kikko and was most popular in Japan during the 9th through twelfth centuries. The pine bark pattern is called matsukawa bishi. I have several unfinished sashiko projects and I might have to get one out and work on it now that I see your projects!
Sashiko is so relaxing! My local library offers art classes and I thought it would be fun to teach. Wish you could come and share some of your knowledge with us!
