This one is called tortoise shell. I find sashiko very relaxing. I may have to dig out one of the kits that is in my basement and stitch it as my carry along project. For some reason none of my (many) Mill Hill Kits are calling to me...
I like doing sashiko too. Have you seen the book "Japanese Country Quilting - Sashiko Patterns and Projects", by Karen Kim Matsunaga? It has three sections - tools & techniques, patterns, and projects. I like to look at it when I'm too tired to stitch. I have lots of ideas for things I want to make. Sashiko is looking more appealing than the Queen right now, even though I have so little left to do on her jewels!
